Program 5: JRP-Job Readiness Program

Job Readiness Program for young people

It is our belief, based upon solid research and a range of experiences, that the problems of youth today, has a direct correlation to other factors, particularly lack of employment opportunity, lack of academic success (often due to weak numeracy and literacy skills), lack of effective social and communications skills, and lack of effective support systems for at risk young people and their families.

The Youth Connecttion Association Inc.,  attempt to address many of these issues. We currently run a tutoring programs that stresses civic and citizenship, and basic mathematics and language skills development and career training.

We also provide individual and group counseling for young people and their families. We also provide referral service.

As well we offer a series of modules or workshops, including a recently developed program on Communication Skills, Confidence Building, Anger Management and Conflict resolution, interview skills, and  resume writing.

These programs are an effort to lower the desire to be involved in inappropriate, harmful, negative, or unlawful activities by the youth with whom we work and to assist them in their job search and to make the the necessary transition to functioning young adults.

The Youth Connection Association Inc.  liaise with various institutions and link participants to different programs such as: Electronics Technician; Automative Technician; Precision Metal Trades; Pharmacy Technician; and other apprenticeship programs.

Many successful students in the Windsor area have served their apprenticeship in automotive, electrical and pharmacatical fields and then decided to open their own business. Employment opportunities abound with great earning potentials. There is an enormous demand in the job marketplace for qualified workers in Automotive Industry, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Electrical Technician and Pharmacy Technician.

The Youth Connection Association for Academic Excellence Inc. helps students acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to complete their apprenticeship program, and receive supervised, on the job training and become familiar with the demands and responsibilities of employment.
